I think the concept shows a lot of promise. I think they could work some on the front end grille and the rear tail lights.
I'm not a big retro fan to be honest.

Ehh, I guess I would buy one but I'm sure they'll make some changes to make it look a little better. I looks like rear visibilty will be pretty limited. Independant rear? Didn't hear all of the audio.
'Reasonably compact', but what does it weigh?

Yup, independant rear!!
The cad pictures of the underside were out a while ago and showed independant rear.

Needs to be less than $25k for a stripper Z28 and weigh less than 3350lbs or I won't even consider it.

It grew on me during the video, at first glance the point of the nose was too much, I still think it would look better more flat. Also, would be nice if they put in the old fashioned hideaway headlight grille covers to hide the headlights during the day. I agree with Keith that it needs to weigh less than 3350-3400 lbs and have a target price of $25 or less. Not sure the big diameter wheels are smart. One could only hope they put a decent posi in it.

So GMC is finally going to get the ax?

I know that's what they say, but the entire GMC line is probably the least differentiated line out there. Sam goes for the new GM minivan lineup. But I guess in some cases, they are holding true to that, like there'no no sunfire replacement... unless of course you go to Canada where Pontiac has a Cobalt equivalent. I have to stop trying to figure GM out.

New styles are usually hard for me to digest. When the new mustang came out I REALLY HATED it. After getting used to it a bit I almost like it... naaah scratch that. On the other hand, this concept Camaro is off to a good start. I'm not thrilled with it but I don't hate it in the least. The vid says without looking retro.. lol, I guess so.

Rear fenders look too much like previous generation Mustang's.
Grille openings look out of proportion, should be smaller. Wonder if the RS-style grille is returning? If it was flush-mounted I bet it would improve aero numbers.
Looks like the whole engine will be visible when the hood is opened. I like the cowl hood, not too high but hopefully functional. Oops - just noticed the opening at the leading edge of the nose.
Car will probably look great as a convertible. Hopefully no T-top versions will be produced.
2009 Camaro plus LS7 = Modern ZL1, anyone?
Vracer111
Jan 8 2006, 08:29 PM
Not bad...but it's going to weigh more than 4th generation Camaro unless they plan to reverse modern trends. GM can't even make the solstice weigh what it should (2500-2600lbs). I'm calling weight for the Camaro between 3600-3800lbs and cost around $28K. And no I won't be buying one or any other GM or Ford vehicle... had enough of "American" vehicles with my '98 Camaro.

sounds like someone who hasn't yet driven a y-body....
but i agree on the weight thing. but many other companies are worse on weight than GM... like BMW. Look how heavy the Mini is... But yeah, even with carbon fiber front fenders and hood they couldn't get the C6 Z06 to weigh less than a C5 Z06 without the carbon fiber hood.
and what kind of lead do they put in the camaro doors? The doors aren't metal and they weigh 5 times as much as the doors on my y-body. There is an easy 30-50 lbs on each door they can get rid of (or at least that's what it feels like).

2006 Mustang v6 starts under $20k, so hopefully GM will price the base Camaro the same comparitavely by 2009. I don't know if Ford dealers are marking up the Mustangs however.

Good point about the interior. The seats look good, everything else has to (and probably will) go. Often it seems like interiors are the one thing where the concept will differ from the real thing when its this radical.

Went to Long Island once with a friend and his GF. She rode in the back of the car all the way up and back. She had no problem with leg room (she was small but not tiny). Her only issue was the lack of a window to look out of. Pretty claustrophobic back there. Way up was at night so not as much of a problem.
Yes they are of limited use, I'd rather that than a 4-door camaro a'la dodge charger, though!

The picture of the burgandy one is growing on me. I think most of the interior looks hideous, but I'm confident that is just for the showcar. On the exterior, I think it looks cool to bring back. My concern is the weight and the price. I have a feeling the 4th gens would be better track cars than the 5th gen. I bet my next new vehicle won't be the Camaro, but a new truck!

Seriously, I really like the looks of it, at least the exterior. I'll enter the pool for 3750lbs and 33k. I just hope GM doesn't try and do what they did withthe SSR, try and sell something for an outrageously high price as a specialty/halo vehicle.
