In the last 3 events I've ran I've made 20 runs. THREE of those were clean runs. ALL others had cones. Just realized this today.

I'm not changing anything though. Hitting cones just means I'm pushing the car. It's not like I'm plowing dead square into them. Hell half the time I didn't even feel/hear it

And FWIW I hope the course is really tight too. A tight course has more technical areas. Which means more areas to pick up time. (OR TO LOSE TIME)

JUST DON'T RAIN. thumbup.gif

Odyssey PC680 Battery and 1LE fog light delete panels are due here Friday.

Lonnie how did you secure your battery? Aluminum flat stock and angle?
ESPCamaro
Yeah I just made a mount out of some scrap aluminum.

It's probably a bit heavy but it's damn secure. I'll probably drill a bunch of holes in it to lighten it.

Hell, the more the merrier. Come on down. You already saw my excuses (they are stacked in the garage, they used to be Nittos), but I won't let that stop me.....

In lieu of a frrax.com track day, we can just have the frrax.com autocross meet. Where we all converge on my local group and try to wreck the yearly points competition in about 3 classes.....

Good, we expect to see you!

I agree with Kevin. The more the merrier. My season has been blown to pieces by work commitments anyway. The only satisfaction I can get is to try and beat Kevin. :drive:

Reasonably fast (on a local level) unless he hits cones (which he was doing a lot, I'm not sure about recent events though).

Ok weird they changed my number to 18? I hope I have my 1's.

Relax Lonnie, I was just kidding.
I gotta go to Syracuse for a Glen Out of Region event to catch up on PAX points that I missed while going ot DC for the NE Divisional. When I get to drop my poor showing from our wet event I will finally get the lead.

I will probably pass. I will be in California next week and still need to pick up some things at the office that needs to go with me. We have also been invited to dinner by Stef & Michelle. I will give you a call later about tomorrow.
Mericet
Well, SM2 blew up pretty well. Danny Popp ran in it with Dave Kutney. I managed a third after them. I guess my co-driver status is starting to look shaky. The Nitto's are still good for a few events as well.

Rob took second in ESP. I picked up your trophy and left it with Kevin.

Heya,
I just wanted to say thanks to Trackbird and Pimpmaro for riding with me I had a blast. thumbup.gif I really wanted to make Kevin pee alittle but failed. unsure.gif
My last run felt really good and I got it together but can't wait to finally know Old Blue alittle better and once again will try to make Kevin pee. biggrin.gif

Nice meeting everyone. Sorry I didn't stick around longer. Fall classes start for me tomorrow morning. blink.gif

Oh yeah and needless to say sunday for me started with one stupid mistake that snowballed and killed the rest of the day. I haven't driven for a month and 3 runs wasn't enough with the new setup. Ok, ok I know lame excuses, but I swear I'm not that bad.

I guess that's what I like about autocross the million and one ways to screw up every event and the constant challenge it provides.

Regardless of how the event went I enjoyed meeting everyone from the board and finally putting some faces with the names.

Oh yeah and Congrats to Bill (Axoid). And thanks to everyone for their help this weekend.
trackbird
Well, my best run was the first one. I really thought I had my head in the game at first.....

It fell apart from there.....

My second run was not so good, I got about 2.5 seconds slower (I got lost on course).

My third run I was progressively behind the car, it got loose and I spent the whole run trying to get caught up.....right up until I looped it (and really looped it well too).

So, the day was a bit of a write off, but I know where I screwed up and I'll learn from that.

Time to start on the car.....again.....

It was great to meet Rob and Lonnie, sorry that I took off, but I had some things that I needed to attend to at home and had to run on short notice.

And Liz....I'll ride with you anytime (even if you don't drive like a girl..... rotf.gif ).
Pilot
Ok, so I guess it's my turn to post up... and hell, I left early. Rob, Lonnie, it was great to meet you both... those LT1 cars are an absolute blast. biggrin.gif

Here's my version of the day... I just started a new job and was trying to conserve funds during the week, so I was going to do a walk on registration today (limited to 30 people). So I set the alarm for 6... I wake up, shut the alarm off, and I think I'm goin about my business... next think I know, I find myself back in bed, just waking up a second time at 7:45... I call Kevin in a panic to have him save me a spot and I'd pay him back... He's still in his driveway! Neil overslept too and they were all waiting on him! So I fly down to the stadium and I missed open registration... and they didn't let me register in place of some who had committed in early registration but didn't show. Oh well, I had a blast riding.

Rob, your car feels great. Lonnie, your car is a beast. Liz... well, just... I see how it is... save all the best runs for Brad and Kevin... just show me the alternate view of the course tongue.gif

Now for all you all... just you wait till I learn how to drive... and learn how to make it to registration on time... then You all will REALLY be in trouble.. If you think it took them forever to run the groups today, just wait until they have to reset the cones after my runs. thumbup.gif

Nice to meet everyone. I didn't get a chance to say goodbyes to some of you because you were already working by the time I was done.

Kevin you got your swaybar right? I sat it over by Rob's car.

I told you guys I was on a roll of hitting cones.
axoid
From what I understand, ESP kill more cones yesterday than any other class. So many of us may have driven badly, but we made an impression. biggrin.gif

My day started off good but went to hell at the second turn of the first run. Went in too hot and ate 3 cones. Two corners later looped it and spent the rest of the run trying to keep the back end under control. The second run was better but I nipped 2 cones, The third was going good until the 3 quarters mark when I looped it again and nailed 3 more cones.

It was good seeing you again Lonnie and nice meeting you Rob.

They have my times wrong.....

I ran a 50.9xx on my first run, didn't I?

Nevermind, it wouldn't change the finishing order anyway.....

Oh well, I'm "fixing" the car for the next event (I can't drive, but I can bring a better car..... ph34r.gif ). The clutch and flywheel are in, I drove it to work today to start breaking them in. Wow does that thing engage low on the floor (and it currently chatters a bit).

The balljoints for the upper control arms will be here today (most likely), more negative camber here we come.

And, I have been running around gathering up used Victorracers to finish the season on (anything will be faster than the Nitto's of steel.....they are wearing like iron though).

So, at the next event, I expect to be slightly faster, or have no clue how to drive the damn car.....

:drive:

(and, seeing the ESP times, I don't feel bad about Neils time on this hockey pucks we have been calling tires)
axoid
47s were definitly doable if some of us weren't weren't driving like crap.

To say that my head wasn't in the game is probably a gross understatement. But with Danielle having surgery a few days before and everything else going on, I was not really there and it showed.

Oh well, no excuses. I came, I got beat.....

I think I "might" have hit (wiggled) one on the first run. I didn't slam one, but I think I ran over the base of a cone in the first chicago box, that may have been enough.

Yea, we'll rename it, but I'll hold my suggestions until we see how we drive it.

Wow, interesting.... Had Lonnie managed a clean run in this lifetime, he'd have won by a mile (*ahem*, with a stock height PHB). Lee Franz is a very nice guy from Findlay, Ohio, he helped me big time last year with some control arms!

But Lee's car is very, very, very stock. Lee will tell you that he's not near the top of the fastest guys, for what it's worth. We've talked about it from time to time....

Someone was saying how this car felt to that car, and that one felt a lot more planted than the other...... Ok, but the more "stable" car was some 3 seconds off the pace of the one that moved around more. If you are going faster, the car is going to move around more.

I'm going to try like hell to make an OVR event after Nationals in my car. Hopefully I can give some rides to you all so you can see what it's like/what the car feels like.

That would be great Sam, we'd (I'd?) love to have you down.

Tonight, I think I'm going to make "Charcoal" C4 wheels to put the new to me Victorracers on (got some painting to do). It is almost the perfect shade of brake dust, so I'll stick with it.

I think I might change out the "dead" front wheel bearings this weekend as well, and a fresh set of front rotors (I've almost ground clear through the slots on the current slotted ones....no slots on the new ones).

It really will be a new car.....if I could only drive it.

Ahem I had a bad day and no comparison can be made. I haven't driven for a while and only had three runs to get it done. Not to mention the car is completely untuned. This is the worst driving I've done by far all year long. In fact I'm really pissed off about it but there is always this sunday.

And yes I didn't push the car very hard at all that's why it felt so stable to the passengers. Brand new setup, zdero runs on it, and I haven't driven in a while. tongue.gif I normally have six runs to get things done.

I could've driven a Z06 sunday and been killed by an HS car.

I could also say ahem with an automatic, but that doesn't make an automatic better does it? I think you see what I'm getting at.

I don't know what the coned issue is about. I've thought about it since this event and I've been hitting a TON of cones.

Oscoda Pro, cones every run but two. Toledo Tour I may have been clean but the car was so screwed I coudln't drive hard, Peru tour cones, Toledo Pro cones every run, cendiv event cones every run, the list goes on.

I think if ALL of the car were wider not just the rear, I'd be in better shape so far as hitting cones.

I really feel confident that had a I started from the begining of run 1 to make a fast one I'd have been in the low to mid 46's. I Know of where I could have picked up time.

I think you can probably drive fine Rob, you've raced against Dave Kutney right. I usually run right with him, and had him beat by half a second at our last cendiv (if not for cones) That's the best way I can compare us.

You know what I think about the setup, you're working with. But it is an important point that Sam made. Don't take it as picking on. The car is really different when going a little faster. I've already noticed it. While Sam probabaly doesn't think much of my driving, this is my first year where I felt OK about what I've done. I finally feel like I'm getting faster, and that the car is working well. I know of ways to get faster but need more seat time to work in the implementation.

And yet I STILL have been getting beat down by Marcus Merideth all year. I'm sure that the car will feel like it's different when I'm able to keep up with him (when that happens-it will, and if the car where still the same at that point)

I might come over for another OVR event but man is it a long drive. Maybe I could come when Sam does, since I'll have a couple parts to drop off and maybe to pick up.

For the type of surface, and course, I'm pretty happy to have run with Alex raw time wise.
robz71lm7
I haven't run against Dave Kutney in quite a while, but I'm sure I would get stomped by him. I'm aware the car will feel different. Unfortunately I probably won't be going to OVR again this year. It's too expensive especially for only three runs. FWIW I pax anywhere from 8th-30th in my 130 car region-I'm very inconsistent. If I haven't driven the prior weekend my driving usually becomes total crap. I always seem to need a lot of warm up. I'm just not anywhere near the level where I could compete at nationals and get it done in three runs.

My objection aimed at Sam was his trying to compare setups from the results-that is ridiculous.

If we don't have timer problems, we usualy get 4 runs, and often 5. But losing that hour and a half was "huge".

Dave Kutney was in SM in Danny Popp's Z06 (he's the second part of the two part asskicking we received).

You were reserving judgment until you got to run the car. Now you have. I mentioned that simply to prove my points in the past when I've been shouted down about speed and setups.

I wasn't picking on you Rob, you just happened to be the guy with the new setup. If you are going to report on how it works (and you haven't yet, I know) the speed is an issue.

I really mentioned this because I've already heard how stable you car was. Well, yeah. So the real reason was to point out to some others that the stability could be from a number of reasons.

Ok, you felt you drove badly. I wasn't there, so who am I to say. In short what I see is a car setup very much like what you had previously going a lot faster, bad day or not.

I have run against Dave, and he's never beaten me. Not in the '82, not in the '01.
The whole thing that I try and remind folks of is that setup and test driving has to be done by someone consistent. If you aren't consistent, it's awfully hard.... ok, impossible to make reasonable determinations about the changes you've made in the car.

If you want to run a different setup, fine. I'm simply cautioning you that you might not have been best served by doing it when you know your driving can have you at the top of PAX or way down.....

My comparison is far from ridiculous. Both cars are ESP cars. Both are driven by drivers who are relatively inexperienced (a few years, few schools each). Both were run at the same time on the same lot. What's so crazy about that? It's not exact to be sure, but it's not ridiculous. I went from Hoosier to Kumho AT Nationals last year after looking at the exact same kind of data from the practice course and the ProSolo. Being that I'm not to wet behind the ears, I'm pretty good at interpreting things like that.

Although Kevin is making changes to the car, it is for the most part needed as general upkeep. The car will most likely stay that way for some time. (but with Kevin, you never know wink.gif )

One day in the future we might get the consistent part right as well. :leaving:
robz71lm7
Perhaps I took it the wrong way Sam but this is just my 3rd year and I mainly run local events. You've never seen me run so it's hard for you to see how bad/good I am compared to Lonnie. I think there is huge a difference in tires between Lonnie's car and mine and I'd guess he's a lot better driver. I've never beaten Dave Kutney when I've run against him. I just need more tuning time before go and judge the untuned settup. I'll have a much more experienced codriver with me sunday and at a test and tune two weeks later. It's hard to tune something over 1 or 2 autocrosses when you throw in the short amount of seat time and different surfaces and conditions.

I'm sorry I took what you said the wrong way, but I strongly believe it is bad logic to try and compare the setups. I had your setup to the "T" but i haven't said anything good/bad about it compared to this one-how can I? It's just too soon. Maybe if I can get another set of tires and make it up to OVR you and I could co drive my car. This is assuming I've got it tuned.

Sound fair?

You know I have a great deal of respect for you Sam-the engineering student in me won't let a judgement like this be made though. I'm withholding any good/bad judgements for a while.
