Any interest in these? Anyone good at graphic design? They don't have to be fancy. I'd like a couple to throw on my car for events.

I'd put them on my car too, but graphics are not my specialty. I hear Keith has good taste in graphics. Maybe he'd be interested?

I would say to keep it simple. Something along the lines of a 1x5 sticker to go on the pillar between the glass and the backhatch. And just put www.FRRAX.com so that when ppl see it they stair at it for a second and go....WTF is that??? Then they ask.

I want some!!
Anyone else notice that a car that's on a road course or even an autox course that has no "stickers" looks really plain?
The plain cars stand out more than the cars with decals everywhere. At least to me.

I’ve included a link to the one that I have on my BMW – I like the simplicity of it. It’s one of those rubber ones that doesn’t actually “stick”, but adheres through suction or static cling or voodoo magic or something.
http://www.bmw-m.net/decal.htmPerhaps design it along these lines?

I would almost rather have a sticker sticker. That voodoo stuff won't work to well w/ my 5% tint in the back. That is, if it adheards to the inside.

I was thinking of:
FRRAX.com
F-body RR & AX Forums
In white or silver letters.

Gotta have silver here. We do our club stickers in only 2 colors, silver and red. 90% of our members want the silver regardless of their car color.

Sounds great!!! Count me in as well.
Your basic colors are the best. Black and White this will keep the cost down for us and basically show well against most car colors.

Feb 7 2004, 04:51 PM
I just emailed a member of my local club that makes decals for us. I'll keep you all updated. Most likely it will be entirely script (i.e. no graphics). I'm going to see what it will cost for the decals in white, silver, and black.
Does everyone want just the address or the "F-body RR & AX Forums" below that too?
Also what about size?
Before it's all said and done I'll probably start a poll.

Feb 7 2004, 05:39 PM
Well, I ain't putting any stickers directly on my car. OK, I would for the right offer of paid sponsorship

I would put the sticker on a magnetic backing, and only use it on race days. There's only so much room on the rear quarters, and the class numbers take up the area behind the doors, so it's basically got to go over or behind the wheel arch (above the rear fascia).
Size accordingly
robz71lm7
Feb 7 2004, 10:51 PM
I'd probably put them on magnetic vinyl as well. Or on the very bottom of my back window.
Chime in people.

Feb 8 2004, 04:12 AM
I'd be glad to run a small vinyl sticker on my rear hatch glass. Since I'm not into any kind of competition yet it would be more of just an exposure tool for the site.

Feb 8 2004, 04:32 AM
....I would put some stickers on the car...but make them small and unobtrusive.....maybe 1-1.5 inches high and 3-4 inches wide......
I think something stylish like the BMW sticker before would be nicest, and get the most attention....there is a lot of text/font stickers, and they are boring.....
ESPCamaro
Feb 8 2004, 01:45 PM
I'll probably put mine on the side of the rear bumper cover. My doors are taken up, and I don't think these stickers would look good above the rear tires on the Q/P.
I would also put one BIG sticker on my hood. If they were available. I've wanted something big for the hood for awhile.

Feb 8 2004, 01:50 PM
A static cling sticker on the inside of the window would be OK, but a sticker on the outside of the glass will look like crap quickly, especially after the ice scraper hits it a few times.
Besides, anything adhered to the outside of the car is a real pain when detailing (not that I do that as often as I should, but ...).
So, I'd leave a static cling sticker inside the glass all the time (if printed on the right side), but anything with adhesive would go on magnetic backing.
94bird
Feb 8 2004, 04:07 PM
I'd recommend both a static cling smaller sticker and a normal exterior sticker.
I'd only consider a sticker that I could put on my fenders, preferrably about the size of the Evolution school stickers (3x6?) The autoxers can then put magnetic sheet behind it and others of us can stick it on the car.
sgarnett
Feb 8 2004, 04:26 PM
Yeah, I don't think many people would want Lonnie's thunderfrrax on the hood

Besides, I have to reserve the hood for my "primary" sponsor (if that ever becomes somebody besides me)
robz71lm7
Feb 8 2004, 07:55 PM
Well how about 7x2" sticker with FRRAX.com and F-body RR & AX Forums below that. Then we could have a smaller sticker 3.5x0.75" that simply reads FRRAX.com.
Does that seem reasonable?
The smaller sticker could also be a static cling?
I don't think anyone wants a big static cling do they?
I'm assuming most sign shops can make static clings.
I'm thinking black, white, and silver for the big decal. For the small one we wouldn't want black since it will probably be going on glass.

Rob that sounds fine.
At this point, I would get with your sign guy, and work out a price. Then work on the appropriate mark-up. You, your sign connection, and Chris should be able to come up with something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, yet makes money for the board.
robz71lm7

I'll try and workout a price with a local shop this week. Any markup will cover postage and the rest will go to Chris to help run this board.

For the stickers, I use that electro-static plastic thing that garages use on a small square to show when the next oil-change is due.
Anyways, I got a big piece of it and I glue the stickers to that.
When I get at the track, I just put that on the glass and it sticks... after the day, take it out and put it in the trunk... so it doesn't stick to nothing much but glass, I find it's great... I put it in the upper part of my windshield.

That would work I like it. That would make colors simpler too. Tell you what make one big for the regular sticker and a smaller one like everyone else discussed (sizes were mentioned earlier) and I'll take them to the print shop tomorrow or wednesday.

Is silver a difficult color to print well, especially on a clinger?
i960
Feb 10 2004, 03:21 AM
Ok, here ya go. First one is 7"x2" and the second is 3.5"x0.75". Both are 144 pixels/inch. I can increase the resolution to whatever you want or go down to the standard 72 pixels/inch, but you'll lose a lot of detail going that route. Both are jpegs but I can output to any format you want. I also tweaked the silver color slightly.

robz71lm7

I like it better without the "WWW." I think two versions would be nice-one silver in the center and another white in the center.
I can take i960's files in on disk and get them made, but we might want to wait and see what everyone else comes up with. If i960 has a shop he likes that would probably be easier. Our local "Fast Signs" does decals and static clings. I also have a paypal account that can take credit cards if people don't want to mail checks.

Instead of a white center alternate, I think red or blue would look good.
I think I like it better sans www too, but the full url would look good with a stylized topline of an f-body profile above it (with a 2nd gen, nascaresque spoiler).

I took quite a bit of art in high school (weird for an engineering major isn't it?). I could draw a nice f-body outline. I think a 3rd or 2nd gen would be a nice outline-like sean mentioned. The only problem is getting the sketch into digital format-I'll see if I can sketch something up and then if the sign shop can do that.
robz71lm7
Feb 10 2004, 05:11 PM
This iroc would make the perfect outline. I think the 3rd gen is most identified/pictured car when you think of an f-body. You could make the spoiler touch taller and maybe add a splitter.

Very true. but at the same time when others see the 3rd gen, they instantly think "mullet"

. I still get it from the porsche guys at the track and I think my car is anything but a mullet machine.

I don't know any shops around here that do this kind of stuff. I'm sure there are some, but I've never checked them out. I can do pretty much anything in Photoshop (been using it since version 2.5 when it came on floppies), but I suck at doing hand drawn stuff. My brother is pretty good at artwork though and I do have a nice scanner to work with, so that's another option.
If these turn out nice I'll definitely put one on my car, and I don't even race! (yet). Still saving up to get a beater before I take my SS off it's daily driver status.

I put all the decals on a single page on my website, which you can view here:
http://www.industrialtechware.com/frrax/I made a new one which is at the bottom using an outline of the 3rd gen posted. I have to admit I'm not all that artistic so I'm sure someone could come up with something better. It's a transparent PNG, so if you are viewing it in Internet Explorer it will fill in the transparent areas with a lighter gray color. If you view it in Mozilla, it works properly and shows the background through. Just wanted to get an idea of what it could look like without a solid white background. I tried using a transparent GIF instead, but the edges get all jaggedy and it looks like crap. When printing none of that will matter, assuming the printing people can handle it.

I like the one with the cars outline.
heck, having it on my window, might distract people from staring at my mullet.
