I am very new to AutoX and I was wondering how can you compair your times to somebody else's times who ran at a different place? Where is the consistancy? Are all autocross events measured distances?

You can't. There is no real relation between different courses at the same site, much less at different sites. I can say that our courses run 45-52 seconds (for the fast guys) on the main lot we run. So, they are similar lengths due to the area of the lot, but there is not much comparison. For reference, we do a 2 day event, we run a course forward one day and backwards the next. I (and most others) was 2-3 seconds slower on the same course when running it backwards. Some of the corners were really tight in that direction (increasing radius becomes decreasing radius, etc). So, our times on the "same" course were wildly different.

Just keep watching the fast guys and see where you are in relation to them. Work on your skills, car control, not getting lost and the other stuff will follow.

Welcome aboard!

Nice thanks for the explination! I am going to an AutoX on the 16th in Maryland Philly SCCA???

There is usually a good chance that someone from this board will be there, but I can't always swear to it. We have some WDC SCCA (Washington DC) region members here, and a few from about anywhere/everywhere. You might see if anyone is going (toss up a post), you can probably get some gudance (if you'd like it) that way and it's good to make friends in the process.

Have fun!
