Went riding today with my regular riding buddy and a new guy. The new guy showed up with his girl friend who was wearing jeans and a tank type shirt. I knew this was going to be bad before we even started riding. Well, the guy just had to try to haul butt even with the girl on the back and he low sided about a mile past Bogg's Creek on Hwy 129. They fell directly in front of me and I watched the girl and guy tumbling until they went down a pretty steep hill right off the edge of the road.

As luck would have it, an ambulance happened to be right behind and they pulled up with-in a minute or two of them falling. The guy was in pretty good shape {he was wearing a leather jacket and gloves}, the girl looks like she might have a broken ankle and she has a pretty bad case of road rash {allot of it on the upper chest if you get my drift}. She worked at Hooters and it will be awhile I bet before she'll be waiting tables again.

That kind of stuff really irritates me. It's one thing to go up there and risk your own health {for the most part} playing. I can understand that, heck I play a good bit myself but when you have another person riding, you owe it to them to be careful. I would have a big problem with what she was wearing anyway {showing alot of shoulders and back} but I know damn well I wouldn't have been up there hauling ass no matter what she was wearing. I was actually thinking of asking the guy to slow it down but I figured that would only alienate him and make him go faster. The guy's bike is most likely a total and the girl will be out of work for a while {unless Hooters lets her workm all scabbed up}. Why can't people think?? unsure.gif

This is the second week in a row that me and my riding buddy have had to either pull a bike or a person out of the woods {this time the wrecker pulled the bike up}. sad.gif

sorry to hear that... at least they are alive and it seems that the recovery might be pretty hard for the lady.
Gee... I can't believe the guy driving, though... it's not as if they were faced w/ an emergency situation causing the fall. rolleyes.gif
That's one reason I would not let my wife ride with me with minimal requirements: boots, jeans, leather jacket, helmet. (that was the minimal I would accept).
But then again, that was me.
Hope this doesn't take the fun out of riding...
One thing I noticed, with the years I driven bikes, I would tend to select the biker friends to ride with... the yahoo's were left behind... or in front and I would drive with people that enjoy the drive and scenary... we're not lapping on the roads, and it's no fun to drive when it starts becoming stressful... that's my opinion.

Anyways... glad to hear you are OK... and that your friends are alive.
At least they survived... I've lost a few friends to bikes, but doesn't impede me from enjoying it.

Too bad for the girl, she probably didn't know any better. The guy should have, especially to willfully endanger her.

I love bikes, but they require very good judgement and a lot of self control. They aren't for everybody. I have a slow one wich I use for slow joyriding; never racing or communting. Even then I've had a few close calls, usually with a teenage driver that didn't "see" me.

My bro-in-law gets a new sport bike every three years or so, and I get an occasional joyride. I feel good that I'm the only one in the familly he trusts to ride them. So far, everything from a CBR600 to 1300 Hayabusa. If I actually owned one of these bikes, I'd probably be dead wtihin a year. laugh.gif

being over here in athens with UGA being right here i see it all. so many people have bikes and the new scooters. the scooters don't go very fast, but its fast enough to get hurt. i see people all the time with shorts on riding. doesnt matter the style of bike either. its total lack of experience and knowledge.

i used to have a shadow 600 that i sold last year. i loved just riding through the country seeing the scenery and being free. it was never about speed and i never had a passenger. i was not and am not comfortable with it yet. ive never worn any gear other than a full face helmet. ive always had long pants if not jeans on and usually wore my boots. in all the years ive been riding with my dad growing up and going to daytona for a few years there, we never wore anything more than that. some say thats foolish. i disagree. the biggest safety feature is how you handle the bike and knowing what to do and what not to do. if you want to wear the kevlar jackets thats very smart, but if you want to ride like a dumbass you might as well take it off. it wont save your life with the way so many people ride. especially the sport bikes. so many of them are just asking to die.

i plan to get a Nighthawk 750 next and hopefully within a year. i also plan to get full riding leathers for cold weather. come summer and nice weather itll be back to jeans, boots, and always a full face helmet. this is the minimum you should wear. it will also be back to country road crusing and the freedom you feel when riding. it will never be about the speed. itll eb years before i have a passenger i think. im just too nervous about the thought of having someone hanging onto the back of me like that.

glad to hear no one was seriously hurt. id say that guy shouldnt ride again and the girl should really think twice about who she rides with. there was a kid that works with my roommate that dropped a brand new Kawasaki cruiser. the kid had a learners and no prior experience with a bike yet went out and bought one brand new. didnt have insurance either. bikes totalled and the kid should be thankful he walked away. some people.

Well it looks like the girl was a bit worse off than we thought. The guy called my step son and told him that the girl is in ICU and has internal injuries. Not sure what kind though. Thing that gets me is that the girl had a leather bike jacket but just decided not to wear it. Just irks me that the guy could be so irresponsible with someone on back.
