ok so im selling my scooter(96 honda shadow) and ive been hearing way too many stories of counterfeiting all kinds of bills and documents such as bank checks. ive got this guy that wants my bike. no big deal. but maybe hes just too excited about it or something, but im not liking him a whole lot. so im wondering what are some ways i can tell if the money hes brings me is real? i will only deal in cash so i just need to know how to check it.
if anyone has better ideas on how i should handle it (ie something other than cash, thatll be guaranteed) let me know. thanks

Damn this guy must be a real dirt bag.
I think just hold it up to light and check for that little strip that runs through it.
If he gives you 'real' money are you going to include a milk crate for him? Drunk drivers piss me off. I'd ask to see his license and if he doesn't have one tell him it aint' for sale.

Make the transaction at either HIS or YOUR bank.

Yep. That's what I did when I sold my RS. Dropped the guy off at his bank, waited outside, he came out with a bank check.

no no hes not a dirt bag. its just odd to me that hes already gotten a loan to buy the bike. thats fine if he knows he wants a bike and wanted to go ahead and get a loan for it to save the hassle once he finds a bike he wants. but he got a loan based on my bike. and hes only saw the one pic from cycletrader.com he didnt want to see anymore pics. he took my word for the tires, the tank problems(which are minor), the condition of the chrome, everything. he wanted to buy the bike two nights ago, before he had even talked to me, and he lives two hours away. at first he wanted to give me a check personal or bank. i said no i deal in cash only. that didnt phase him, he said no problem. he is military supposedly. which if he is helps me out. cause he cant run and hell face two courts if he does something illegal. i don't think theres anything wrong, im just trying to safe guard myself.
how about we go to kroger once he gets here and turn the cash into a western union money order? my friend mentioned that, i like that idea the more i think about it. any reason that wouldnt be a good idea? thanks guys

As a small business owner I can give you some tips. Any money order I can think of has a watermark. Western Union or Amex do. The Amex mos are available from any Albertson's if you have those. Going into the bank is really a good idea.

My mistake. A Honda Shadow.
I only noticed the scooter part.
In my area, scooters with milk crates bungy corded to the scooter means that they can't figure out how to NOT drink and drive.
Usually co-incides with a mullet. Then again maybe I shouldn't be so judgemental.

Trust me: having ID and being able to 'go after' the guy is
NO comfort!!! Be sure the funds are legal tender and in your posession no later than when you hand over the keys and sign over the title. A judgement against him, criminal charges, or even criminal convictions do nothing to increase your bank balance!

Taking a trip to either persons bank sounds like the safest, hassle-free way to me. If you want cash, make him get if from a teller at the bank, with you present.
