I just read an article on the new CTS-V release. It will be powered by a 550hp supercharged V8 based loosely on the ZR-1 corvette powerplant. Unfortunately the car will be available only with a paddle-shifted 6-speed automatic. I wish I could afford one, what a car!

I just hope that they put REALLY strong internals inside this (and the ZR1's) block. You know people are going to be throwing 1" diameter pulleys on these things and tuning (hopefully) them up to 700+ rwhp.
I wonder if the slushbox is a beefed up C6 6L80E variant, or a whole new, clean sheet of paper design.
It would be cool if it were a REAL SMG type box a la the M3/6es.

For those who prefer to handle the gear selection process on their own, the same Tremec 6060 used in the ZR1 is paired up with a dual plate clutch. The dual plate clutch provides the necessary torque capacity with a lower pedal effort.

That article says you will be able to get it with a 6-speed tremec also! Talk about the ultimate family sedan. If I had the money I woul leave the office right now and get on the list at the local Caddy dealer for a CTS-V manual in black!

Great, so it also weighs in at 1 metric ton

What did you expect? It is a super-duper luxo boat after all.

It's not the tranny you have to worry about, it's the diff. They have upgraded them from the first runs of diffs they stuffed under those cars, and they are still dropping them out the back.
Still, I might have to have a look. I _need_ something with an automatic for the daily commute. ;-)

That's one awesome Caddy, don't think I can really justify the cost to upgrade to it over my Volvo V70R daily driver.

You know, hate to say it but I'd do the same. Of course, I'd take the ZR1 over the Caddy.
