We'll be in Flat Rock, MI to try our hand at 24 hour endurance racing this weekend. Is anyone planning to come out to attend/visit/laugh at our misfortune? We're running a 1985 Toyota Celica-Supra (first generation, they were hyphenated) and it is a truly spectacular machine, you should all come out to bask in its splendor. drink.gif

I wasn't planning on going down myself but I have a friend of mine taking a ~88 olds Achieva

You should come to the race.

You should come to the race.

I didn't help the team out at all so I'm really not part of it. And you got to pay $50 - $100 just to get in the pits.

It sounds like a hoot though.
trackbird
$15 grandstands, $40 infield, $75 pits
StanIROCZ
where are you going to be?
trackbird
Pits, but I'd think the "infield" access would get you into the area (though I could be wrong).

Based on what I can tell from the website, etc, this would be an even better event if they allowed drinking and driving....

Go get em Kev!

They don't???? Aw crap, now we have to change our strategy..... drink.gif

As for the dark side, my friends gathered up the car, I helped strip it and have been super busy during its construction. So, basically I'm charged with towing the trailer (I'm equipped for that part) and doing my best to keep it running. I'm not driving, I decided to put my spare cash into my project instead of building the Toyota for this high (low???) speed demo derby disguised as an endurance race.

Though it does have the radiator that came out of my third gen in it (3 core, copper brass unit that seems to have come from a truck).

I probably won't make it out since it's my parent's 35th anniversary this weekend, but some friends of mine from the Chicago area are running an E30 BMW 3-series under the "Jump the Shark" team banner. I really wish I could make it, from everything I have seen or heard thus far it's a riot!
trackbird
Sweet, I'll have one of the guys give 'em a doughnut......wink.gif

Actually, our car is looking more like an IT car than a "derby"/lemons car and we're hoping to make it a track beater when this is done, so we'll be trying to stay out of trouble....we hope.

Oh how I would love to see that! nutkick.gif

Yeah, they're a bunch of depraved european car fanatic/engineers, but they're also all a bit crazy, so they should fit in quite well at the 'lemons. I definitely need to be there next year, heck, I might even try to put together a team if possible next year, it looks like a great way to blow $500+!

We've got buddies doing the CA version later this year--keep us posted on how you do and have FUN! It does look like an incredibly fun time.

The Lemons folks are running another one out here in late December at Thunderhill - word I have is they will use the school course (skips T8-15) and chicane the front straight. I'll have a hand in prepping a couple of cars for this one.

The Lemons cars are going to run into appearance rules for regular track days - the regular customers won't be happy mixing it up with those beaters in the HPDE groups.

They intend to put it back together as a respectable car if it survives.... If.....

This event has been changed to a true 24 hour event. I wonder how many cars are entering, and better yet, how many will still be running 24 hours later???? Inquiring minds want to know.

nice job beerchug.gif

I talked to my buddy this AM and he said that a White Celica-Supra with a FRRAX sticker won. He said it was a blast. I'm sure you remember the olds achieva. He said that they were knocking down the best lap times but DNF'd due to mechanical probs.

Congrats, that's excellent!! drink.gif

My friends with the E30 BMW weren't so fortunate, they went in for a driver change and the car wouldn't fire, it turns out they had a problem with the Motronic or some relays. They vowed to go back next year though.

I'm even thinking about getting together with some friends to field a team next year, it sounds like an absolute blast!

FRRAX will some day rule the world!!!!!!!!!! the world i tell ya!

Yea, I only brought one decal for the bumper, but that was taken. I should have brought a few extras...

I met them. Great guys, bad luck. They wound up driving the 5 series of the team next to them I think.

I wound up helping a team of college kids with a 1991 Camaro (TBI/5speed). We got their tire pressures fixed, corrected their overheating/temp issues (the panel that "blew down" on my car, was dragging under theirs), then they bent the tie rod attachment points on both spindles, and we cut and sectioned the tie rods and welded them back together so we could get the toe back to something normal and put them back out.

It was a riot!!!!

Oh, and 24 hours is a long, long time.....
Mericet
Very long time. Kevin did great, helping many teams in the pits with tools, help and a hand when needed. During the race he only pounded out dents and kicked mufflers off the race car. Before the race was another story!

I changed tires too! I'm the best airgun man we could find at 5am. We did a 4 tire and fuel pit stop in about 3 minutes with two floor jacks (one per side) and two guys on tires (one per end).

I did kick the exhaust off of the car making it about a 45 second pit stop and not a 5 minute one while I found tools to do the job correctly.

I had to tow the car to work today so I can drop it off tonight (if we can figure out where it's going). I put a box over the bunnies and taped it to the roof just in case I'd offend someone (since I'm a contractor here).

Actually, some of the pro's could learn a thing or two from him.
