anyone seen it on the stands yet? ph34r.gif

I met one of their authors at an autocross and he mentioned doing an issue just for autocrossing and road racing. Guess this is the one you're referring to, I have a subscription but haven't seen it yet.

Uh oh. Have we installed an oil slick and smoke screen device? ph34r.gif

And, are we bringing spare alternator parts this year? nutkick.gif

If last year was your B game, I'm afraid to watch this year. 2thumbs.gif

one thing of note, the guy who won CMC in 06 has been discovered to have been cheeting by like 20 hp. not sure how or difinitively if he was at Nats 06, but he had been all this year. that validates my performance a little. plus, since i have returned from Mid Ohio in '06, i have dropped 1.5 seconds off my lap times at just about every track i drove since then.
my home track best lap pre Mid Ohio was 1:25.8, post Mid Ohio its a 1:24.3. this is the tracki have been driving on since 1999.
so my A game is coming. and yes, an alt bracket is on the spares list. in fact, we have talked about bringing Mitch's CMC car as a back up.

That's funny, someone who I'll not mention told me (on the phone) that they dyno'd that car often and it was always 20+ hp down and that the kid was just fast.

Interesting.....

Doesn't CMC dyno after the race? How was he cheating? Different programming or ??

Mark
GlennCMC70
in most regions its a random check. some regions are set-up to be able to dyno after a race w/ the top 4 or so. this normally requires a dyno on site. here, we seal hoods and computers and have them report to a dyno before the next race w/ a CMC official there to unseal the car.
i've been told the problem was two fold w/ regards to "him".
1) he was dyno'ing at a very high altitude in Nevada and racing at near sea level. this rule loophole was closed this year. even so, it has always been a requirement that your car be legal as it rolls off the track, not the dyno you cert the car on at the begining of the year.
2) he was getting some "help" from the shop w/ the dyno.
there is no finacial gain in CMC from cheeting. so your only fooling yourself by doing it. CMC is a drivers class and if you have to cheet to win, your not a good driver.

as for him being 20 hp down. well over on CMC forums Tony commented about how they had sealed and marked various things on the motor at the begining of the 2007 season due to him not having a current dyno sheet. after he refused several times to report to the dyno he was ejected from CMC till like 2009. the car was raced by his father recently. all the seals and markings were still in place and the car was dyno'ed as raced since the start of the 2007 season and made somewhere between 245-260hp. he was fine w/ that power as he was running CMC-2 w/ it that particular weekend. but thats enough proof for me that he was well over the power limit this year and most likely last year too, including Nationals.
you guys can form your own opinions, i have mine. i was suspicious of it at Nationals but had no way of proving it. i wasnt about to say a word since in 2005 i had caused alot of issues in the Texas region w/ those type of accusations. i left it alone. i also thought it would look like sour grapes w/ my 3rd place finish and i was happy enough to be on the podium. this is just another reason the 2006 Nationals will always be somewhat in question. that and the start of the Championship race was really messed up.

on a side note, my new motor is now restriced down to twin 31mm holes at the T/B. it made 216hp/301tq. proof enough that CMC is not all about power. in fact, w/ those numbers, my minimum is now 3210. so i'm way down on HP and a little up on weight (i normally come off at 3230-3240 though).

Did they not dyno all the cars at mid-ohio nats last year?

Costas

they did not. and his car never finished a single race untill the Championship race. so it was never Teched post race. he also had a "lab coat mechanic" there doing all his work. not sure what to make of all that.
Sam Strano
Rick Jensen told me around Sept 1st..... Because I'm in that issue too.

I don't want to be the second-guesser here, but why the heck didn't someone protest? Why didn't they have a transportable dyno there on site and the cars get dyno'd after Q and after the race? Seems to me (outsider looking in and looking for education) that they should have had one there to really make sure the cars are legal. I'd have been chapped.

The first time the AS cars (regional only at that point) attended the IT/AS Festival in Kansas a car showed up from California that was stupidfast. Stupid illegal too...and promptly thrown out about 5 minutes after the hoods came up in impound (paper was ready to be filed and money was in hand, but the Tech team knew blatant illegality when they saw it). IIRC with only popping the hood there were more than a half-dozen violations visible! blink.gif blink.gif

Anyway, I'd be chapped if I built a nice legal car and went all the way there and felt that a cheater car won. With two 92's I've really thought about making one CMC so this is an interesting topic to me. I may be at mid-ohio to drive a Legacy car and I'll be sure and poke around and see what is what.

don't let this issue stop you. its very isolated.
they did have a dyno and used it for the 2 qual races. but since he made no more than 1 lap durring each of those, he was not impounded and not dyno'ed. as for post Championship impound - it was nothing more than weight and a visual inspection. there were a number of post race issues that was having to be addressed like a really botched start w/ no restart, passing under yellow, contact from the start and durring the race..... bla bla bla. there were also the tipical problems w/ rules interpretations you see when regions race together for the first time, like the legality of wheel spacers, rear spoilers, front spoilers, wheels sticking out of the fenders, cars w/ low vacuum at idle, incorrectly filled out dyno tech sheets.... bla bla bla. all of these issues have been addressed since then and are likely to not be a problem this year. Nationals 2006 was fullo f growing pains. i felt that this was part of that.
this guy who is the point of this tangent drives in the National Directors region. i'm sure these lessons have been learned by him and i don't expect to see these type of issues again.
as much as i would like to see me and Jeff B #1/2 in 2006, i think we were both surprised w/ being #2/3. lets see what happens this year. are we unhappy that it looks as though we were cheeted? sure, but hey, we moved on. we know that what we did was done 100% by the book.
jeffburch
Didn't he dyno right there in front of us?
I saw him certify.

....cheaters race....and racers cheat......its a fact of life.....been driving now 13 years....and working on race cars another 20 before that......this has ALWAYS been an issue....and always will.....

Personally, I don't, because I race for fun, and it is not worth all the headaches associated with hiding it. I will say THE WORST cheating I have seen, and this is pretty much universal....is in the "spec" and/or "drivers" classes ph34r.gif The infractions may be smaller because of the restrictions, but guys will look harder and do more little things to get that "driver's" edge....dunno.gif

For example Spec Miata has been a mess....... rolleyes.gif

Well I'm ticked off with the issue. The writing for the autocross was very simplistic, the red 4th gen should have failed tech due to the hackjob battery hold down, and the green firebird with the crumpled hood was in CP with street tires on a hot sumer day and only made 1 run after he knew he was spotted by a reader. Both cars were WAY off the pace and the author is actually a mustang guy. He also failed to get one good shot of the other 2 f bodies there putting up a good fight! Bruce was there for one of the days as well. If you think it has to do something with permission to use someone's likeness, I'll find out if the tech crew gave him permission when I see them on Sunday. FYI, they're all mustang people... coincidence? In fact I recognize most of the faces shown in that article.

One issue with the article are the fact that they say you can get ride alongs with better drivers. During the driver's meeting it was clearly stated that the only way you can get 2 people in a car is if one is an instructor. Also, the comment about leaving and not being able to get back in isn't necessarily correct either. Granted Englishtown isn't the easiest place to get in and out of, but other events aren't like that. You don't even have to leave Englishtown since they have gas, food, and a very small parts store. If he did some more research it would be apparent that a bunch of clubs use stadium parking lots where you can come and go as you please.

However, I would have rave reviews if my car was at least shown in the background!

That`s great Glenn & Sam!
Sam, is that a trailer hitch on your ride?

Is that legal in your class? biggrin.gif

Congrats to Sam and Glenn/Mitch on this great exposure. Hopefully this will bring even more peeps to this great site, as well as bringing more business to ALL of you!!

Glenn/Mitch; that is one SANO race car you've built/got there!!! Waaay better than I would have expected it to look. 2thumbs.gif

I guess the CMC rules do not let you tie the cage into the "shock towers"??

the cage rules are pretty resticted. there is a provision in the rules regarding shock towers and the cage, but its almost impossible to do w/ the brake booster and motor location.

thanks for the complementson the car. its been almost 3 years straight of solid racing (3 month off season) so its hard keeping it that way. the car has about 63 races on it plus quals and test/practice. its probaply seen almost 100 20 minute sessions.

By rule, we have to run the stock booster and master cylinder in the stock location. So, getting a bar in there and one that would do some real good is next to impossible.

Glenn's description of his track time got me to thinking ... (double check my math ... I graduated from a Texas High School)

100 20 minute races, qualifiers and practice sessions is 2000 minutes of track time. I think 100 is rather conservative, but ....

Using 75 seconds as a mean AX run, that would be like 1600 AX runs in 3 years.

1600 AX runs over a 3 year period would be 530 runs per year or ~ 10 runs a week, every week.

That's like 2 events a week, 52 weeks a year for 3 years, dodging cones, curbs, cars and competitors cars all the while.
