Full Version: Dzus fastener question

I was thinking about replacing our Dzus fasteners on the hood with some with the butterfly fasteners. So, doing the quick and simple thing, I ordered the Summit brand: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.as...mp;autoview=sku

I am thinking that it would be better have corner workers able to just pop the hood open in the case of an emergency, instead of fumbling for the 'Mickey Mouse', not knowing where it is kept. At autocross speeds, the heads won't be that much of a hinderance, and may act as vortex generators. laugh.gif

When I got them, it appears they are steel. I thought that real Dzus Butterfly fasteners were aluminum. Does anyone know this? If aluminum, I'll order real Dzus. I don't want the steel weighing down the front of our car. wink.gif I also don't want to get the rust stains running down the hood. The car already looks like a battleship, although Todd will say 'Taxi!'.

Thanks for any info.

I went out to the garage and grabbed a couple of dzus fasteners with a magnet. They are normal quarter turn fasteners, not butterfly head. Thought I'd add the data point.

The ones that are on the car have been there for a year or two and aren't rusty. Of course the car sees rain once every couple of years, and sits in the garage something like 345 days / year.

Well, I'll be! Didn't even _think_ about testing what we have with a magnet. I a$$umed they were aluminum. Danged things are all steel! Guess I'll start replacing fasteners now. Thanks for thinking for me. rolleyes.gif
