The start of Sunday's American Iron race. Desalvo's blue S197 was running AIX. Landon Ball and I had a great battle for several laps. We both bested the old lap record at Road Atlanta of 1:35.8. He ran a 1:35.3 to my 1:35.1. I qualified on the pole, but got caught sleeping at the start, and fell back to third early. Jo Lee pointed me by on the back stretch (he was down on power all weekend with engine woes) and then the battle between 3rd and 4th gen was on!
Landon and I both took advatage of the new HP/weight ratio for non ABS cars (neither of us were running ABS to start with). He added aero over the winter and lost some weight and cut nearly 2 seconds off his personal best at Road Atl! I went to a close ratio 4 speed, new rear gear and a 7.25" clutch and lost another 100lbs bringing my post race weight to ~2930. Enjoy the Vid! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgEPBB9J0dU |

I've got the tire marks on my door to prove it! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif) |

I only got to watch a couple minutes before my computer froze, I'll have to try to watch the rest on another computer.
Which rear gear did you go with and what RPM are you shifting? Work looks like it's going to kill most of my racing time this season, so we're talking about maybe going to Road Atlanta in Nov. and knowing the rear gear ahead of time would be great. |

I'm still running a 10 bolt, so my only realistic choice was 3.23's. I'm shifting at 6k, rev limiter set at 6,400. On a couple of laps I got into the rev limter at the end of the back stretch. It really needs like a 3.15. If a 3.08 was not a 2 series gear I'd probably be running it. |

Thanks for the info. I just started putting together a 3.10 center section for Road America and was hoping it'd be about right for Road Atlanta and maybe VIR. I shift at 6500 and I usually limit the redline to 7000, but I make peak power at 6100, so it looks like I should be in good shape.
I like a 3.40 @ Mid-O, but I think it's closer to 6700-6800 on the back stretch, so your 3.23 should be good there too. Just a heads up if you're coming back up for Nationals this year. |
