By 'no thumbscrew', you mean your unit does not have the screw that goes through the camera mount pad and into the camera? Thanks.

Yes, that is what I don't see on Kens. I have/had one on mine, I'm pretty sure the mount comes with one from IOPort. If it is not a std camera store item I can ask IOPort if they can supply.

Isn't it just a 1/4 20-screw with a funky head on it?

Kinda - Yes, the thread is 1/4-20, but the shank needs to be necked down, so it's a special screw.

Here's what IOPort had to say:

"Yes, we sell them separately, but you will also need a new pad and plastic
plug to keep the screw from falling out again. The screw is $13.95 and the
pad and plug set is $7.95 retail."

OK, I found another one of these guys - this one is mine, I used it with various camcorders back in the day. Looks the same as Kens, but mine has the screw and pad.

How bout $55 plus shipping for mine, and if 2 of you want these, rather than fighting over who gets the best one, I'll make you a deal on the parts to fix Kens - my cost (if I don't have to ship the things) on the screw and pad is probably about $15, and I can pick it up from IOPort at the next event at the end of the month. I'll waive my profit on this stuff, add the $15 to Kens for $40 and Kens fully functional mount would be $55 plus shipping. What a coincidence, that's the same as mine...
