You guys remember the Rolling Stones had a concert at Altamont Speedway in the late 60's and a Hells Angel guy killed someone in the audience. Its been in the news lately and they just closed the case last week. Anyhow this is what is going on now at the speedway. This was an auto I attended last year.

I would prefer not to disclose what grade I was in when that occurred ...

Let's just say that several of us gathered around behind the bus barn, the unofficial designated smoking area, and the subject came up.

Just to make you guys feel old... I learned about that in Rock and Roll History class last year. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) It fulfilled my art history requirement and is very popular. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Nothing like TV and Hollywood suggest. It was the epitome of paradox; incredible amounts of optomism and independent thinking counterbalanced with massive doses of conflict and violence. As with most time periods, it was what the individual made of it. Stephen King gave some parts of it fair play in his novel, Hearts in Atlantis .

Thanks Jensend, I'll have to check out that book! I was born in the sixties, so was too young to understand much of what was going on. My family lived in Saratoga, a nice suburb of San Jose then. Recently I found out all the parents in our neighborhood were worried their teens would run off to join hippie communes in San Francisco (Haight-Ashbury)! Some actually did according to my sisters who were teens then. They were old enough to appreciate it when Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and some other members of the Starship were partying next door at the neighbors! At least it was a time full of hope and questioning of the status quo.

Sorry, I too missed the 60's completely. I remember the last few years of the 70's, that's about it for me.
