Hello folks,
Just wanted to let you know that I am new here and will be lurking frequently for the purpose of building a G92 IROC-Z for "track day" fun for around Austin, TX events. I am an Auto Tech for Chevrolet (and multi certified for other makes) but knowledge from there to here has minimal transfer compared to the experience that doing this brings. I have already read the write-up sticky which I found to be informative but I am strongly considering reading much more literature on the subject so I can get a better grasp of suspension dynamics. Current progress of the car is a rolling chassis with glass that I have completely disassembled from a complete car for a complete rebuild including chassis and paint. I have bought numerous parts for it but I am awaiting for my "appointment" to have subframes welded in (TDS/Alstons) so I can begin the suspension portion of the build. I did have the pleasure of meeting one of your veterans in person one afternoon while buying a rear end. I was very impressed by the car and wish I could have talked further but I was in a hurry to get back on the road. IIRC, he really preferred the Global West Suspension products on his car and had many season wins. Anyway, I don't plan on muddying up the water with "build my car for me" questions but I will probably need some pointers here and there to make sure I am not wasting money. lol! I know this will be a long process and I am just going to strap in and enjoy the ride. Thanks. |

We can set up 3rd gens around here. Several guys are racing them and my last project car was a 1992 Z28 (it was super stable to drive and very responsive).
Welcome aboard! |

Do you RR or AutoX? I am also having issues uploading an avatar. I tried going to the "my controls" > "avatar settings" but there doesn't seem to be an upload link?? |

I built an RR car and mostly autocrossed it. It went to Nashville Superspeedway. It worked great for both. Avatars can't be uploaded until you have more posts. We had issues with a hacker years ago and I changed it for security. |

Hi there! Welcome to the Best Forum on the internet.
I'm up in the Great White North but have 15 years experience in 3rd gen RR ('89 IROC 1LE and my current '82 TA) so shoot me a PM if you have questions; I may have suggestions. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/burnout.gif) |

Welcome to our little home of car nuts. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I have a '92 that I autocross. Originally built for SCCA ESP class, but now it is moving to Classic American Muscle. Mine is setup a little differently than most, but I seems to seams to work for me. |

First, I want to get the subframes in and show you guys some pics of the floor restoration that's taking progress. It's a rust free car, but still not up to my "standards" so there is a ground up ordeal taking place. Hello! I'm from the Austin area as well. You don't want to move here. The roads are trashy, the people are rude and and the racing is pretty much non existent. Okay, I tried. Seriously, Austin is a nice place to live as long as you live outside it. I've lived here off and on since I was just a speck on the sheet and I can tell you that it has seriously grown. Mostly Californians but other transplants as well are moving in by the hundreds daily. So if you come, bring enough money to add another lane to every major highway this city has... That way you can actually get somewhere. Welcome to our little home of car nuts. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I have a '92 that I autocross. It's always nice to visit friends on the weekend, but with the skyrocketing housing prices and the traffic, it's not the easiest city to navigate. Really cool to see someone on here that's local. Hopefully we can meet in person before too long! I'm always down to meet with a fellow car nut - let me know if you ever want to check out the car or have a beer! I have been looking for a while and if you don't go as soon as MLS shows the listing - it's gone! We are looking in Georgetown right now... Only if I had some property to sell (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) We can definitely meet up one of these weekends for sure! I usually go to Cabellas on Sat. nights. |

I usually go to Cabellas on Sat. nights. Is there a car meet there? Oh yeah. There is a few of them in Austin but the Cabellas meet has more higher end restorations, antiques, heavily modded and well built cars. It's a very family friendly meet that starts at about 6pm and lasts til about 9:30-10:00. From there you CAN go up north via SH130 and go to the street racers hide out but that's usually something I avoid. I used to race the upper deck back in the day but these days I am more interested in giving my money to parts vendors instead of the State. Edit: It's the Cabellas in Buda, right off IH 35. Near Onion Creek PKWY. Can't miss it. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) This post has been edited by IROB-Z: Jul 8 2014, 08:47 PM |

My girlfriend's sister is coming to visit this weekend but I'll try to make it out to the next one since it's so close |
