Hey, I just moved to California (Monterey to be precise) and I need to figure out the lay of the land here. Where can I find a good shop that's not afraid to dive into a modified LS1?

Also, if anyone wants to have their car tuned, let me know, I got HPTuners and I'm not afraid to use it (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Also, if anyone cares to explain the process of what I need to have to register out of state car here that would be great too.
thanks,
Marcin

Welcome to CA (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

For a shop with LS1 experiance try Synergy Motorsports in Fremont. www.synergymotorsports.net

For registering your car, just go to the DMV and bring your checkbook, I think it used to be $300 but not sure do some research at www.dmv.ca.gov/

If you want to go autoX on Oct 1 & 2 come out to Merced. Last AAS event of the year, this will most likely be a 3rd gear course (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . www.americanauto-x.com

For local F-body/LS-1 stuff try out www.norcal-ls1.com
a few of us meet every Thursday night in Milpitas around 7:00-7:30 at Starbucks then go to dinner somewhere around 8:00. Milpitas is about an hour North of Monterey (depending on traffic....).

Welcome (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool2.gif)

You have 6 of the best tracks in the country with in 5hrs of you. Many of the CA CMC/AI/AIX(and me) will be at Willowsprings Raceway this weekend(about 3hrs) come check it out or run if you want, you can pit with me (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif)

I can't help you with a shop, but to get a modified motor to pass the smog test is going to be a pain (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/nutkick.gif) First the EYEBALL test.....anything that dosen't have a C.A.R.B. # will have to go (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rant2.gif) Than the SNIFFER test...I'm sure you can TUNE it to pass that test!

Can you tune a lt1? I have a laptop, and felton316 hooked me up with TunerCat (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) But i have no cable nor the intelligence (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) to do it!

Be careful guys, he'll be damn fast if he ever gets a T56 in place of the slushbox (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

LG suspension and 315s all the way around :leaving:

How've you been Marcin? What made you move, school? Good luck out there, ought to be a racers heaven with all those tracks (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Wow, that is quite a warm welcome, thank you.

I'm 8 miles from Laguna Seca (already visited, simply had to!), and I know how many great tracks are around here, mostly from reading www.nsxfiles.com (if you haven't read it yet, do, Doug is hillarious).

I moved here to go to grad school, so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to afford any trackdays at least for a while. I'd gladly come out to check out racing though, I've been to Willow Springs once before on a track day, and I gotta admit it was the seeing and hearing some RUFs and Diablo's (on straight pipes!) thundering down the main straightway that got me hooked.

I can take a look at the LT1 programming, from what I've read/heard, it's like the simpler and more cumbersome version of LS1 computer. The principles should be the same, just slightly different set of variables/tables/default values. I have no practical experience with LT1s though, but I'd be very interested in taking a crack at it, if you're not afraid (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I have plenty of LS1 experience, I've done 9sec drag cars with strokers in them.

As for the registration/emissions, my car should pass the test with flying colors as far as sniffer or odb2 tests are concerned. The only things that worry me is lack of AIR and EGR. AIR is easy to put back in, EGR not so much, as I also got the LS6 intake which doesn't have EGR altogether. So does anyone have any 'liberal' shops that will pass the visual?

Where are you guys located? Anyone in close proximity? I have only two friends here, and they're about to leave on an internship in two weeks, so it's gonna be just me thousands of miles away from any friendly faces. I could use a friendly gearhead to shoot the breeze with/go to a track and oogle the ones that don't live on a stipend :/
Are the trackdays posted in the Events section, or should I look elsewhere?

Seriously though, if you know anyone with a LS1 needing tuned, let me know, I have some new tools that I'd love to test out, and my car isn't radical enough to see the real results on.

Once again, thanks for warm welcome, it's suprising, but for once it's in that good way (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Here is something for the trackdays in CA and NV
http://track-days.org/

You can always try a state referee (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Track days for CA are indeed posted on our calendar here! I did that at the beginning of the season last year. I am located about 1/2hr from Sacramento, 1 hour from Thunderhill.

Thats pretty much everything I was going to say. If you could somehow keep your car registered out of state I would do it.
Welcome to Calli.

It isn't so much that they're "liberal;" rather, they want YOU to be open to THEIR way. However, THEY refuse to be open to YOUR way. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) But, that's a separate soapbox... :leaving:

Marcin,

I'm planning on attending the WC race in October. We can meet on Sunday if your schedule permits. I'd like to discuss a tune at that time as well, if that's OK.

...I get em for free from "secret" sources....havn't paid to see a pro race in the bay area for YEARS.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ...but you should be able to get them at the gate....or ticketmaster...or the Laguna website...
