Grandparents said they would give me there 91miata red/black 5speed flawless interior/exterior and only 19K miles on it. I know its too good of a deal to pass up on, but its kinda depressing because I had my heart set on getting a vette. So it looks like I may be stepping out of the GM scene for a while but not too long. I'll just take all the extra cash from selling my bird and save up until the C6 comes out and the C5 prices take a dump. I've never really raced these things, they any fun to drive in an AutoX/RR environment?

Hmmmmm lets see....

Swap in a later model 1.8 built to S/P specs, a header, aluminum flywheel, light weight clutch, Torsen, or Quafe diff, nice shocks, stiff springs, flares, 245/13 Hoosiers, on light wheels....You know a bad ass CSP car.

BTW CSP is almost always one of the fastest DOT tire classes. Consider them faster than all stock classes, nearly even with ASP/BSP, and a little slower than SM. (assuming SM has good talent at the event)

Basically a CSP Miata beats an ESP F-body UP!

Miata - autocross - fun?

Took a fun run in a stock class Miata once - after the F Body, I felt like I was cheating!

Maybe it was just the guy I rode w/, only been in one. But it was kinda boring. He just puttered around the course using minbrakes and what seemed like a sunday drive. Maybe its just the different driving styles of the cars or he could have just sucked. The only problem with this car is that I know nothing about them, except how to make fun of them. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Time to start reading....again.

Sounds like a great car to learn the fundamentals of good Autox driving in before you step up to a higher HP car. Keep it stock class legal, buy some sticky tires, and have fun!

Congrats

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I have driven a supercharged Miata on an autocross course and instructed (as a passenger) two Miata drivers in autocross. Compared to f-bodies, they are a piece of cake to drive and the throttle is simply an on/off switch (except for the supercharged one).

I think my corvette is fixed now.
If you want to do a gut check and co-drive the C4 w/ your wheels & tires this weekend let me know (as long as it doesn't rain). 2nd option would be with the Z28.
I've driven a friends '99 Miata a few times. Its fun but not my cup of tea.

Ya, the only problem is that I have to go to florida to pick it up and then get it back. With my school/work/race schedule I don't really have the time so I may have to put it off until after school is out. Im going to get the car as soon as I can, but part of me keeps saying to buy the vette anyways, and the voice is getting louder. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) BTW, happy bday old man and i'll get with you later on and let you know about the tires. Also, does 12K for a 92 vette 6speed w/ 62K on it and is really clean sound like a good price?

Listen to the voices. The car voices are always right!

12k for the Vette sounds good. My dad has a BSP Autox 92 Vette with about 80k miles on it that has gain a "reputation" locally. He will be getting $14k from someone this fall... There are three serious people at the moment.

There's a big group of blown Miatas in SM2 here. They have as much or more power as an LT1 (though the curve isn't flat) but weigh about 3/4 TON less!

The fastest time of the day is usually set by an SM2 Miata, which even beats the open wheel CM cars. The driver is actually fairly new, though he has a natural gift for driving.

I just wish they would scale everything up by 10% or so. Miatas are a lot more cramped than my MGB.

However, let me see if I understand correctly. You are still in school and have been offered a clean, low mileage sports car free and clear, and you're not sure whether you should take it or drop your entire annual income on a Vette. No, I don't know how much you really make - could be half or double for all I know. I also don't know how much you owe on your present car or how much you expect to get for it.

Depending on how much hauling you do (back and forth to school) the f-body may still be better than the Vette or Miata. But ignoring that, my advice would be:

1) Keep your finances as solid as possible right now. Don't borrow anything you don't have to, and don't spend anything you don't have to. You do probably need a car, and there's nothing wrong with having some fun, but a free car in good shape is a heck of a deal for you right now. A free car that's also fun is an even better deal. By the way, you may find that your female friends love going for rides in the cute little convertible on a pretty spring day (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

2) Definitely buy the Vette after you graduate and get a real job, but before you get married. Don't ever sell it. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Heck, keep the Miata too!

BTW, if you decide you don't want a free Miata, I will definitely take it. Just let me know where to pick it up (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Im definatly going to get it, just when im not sure. My grandmother didn't really want to get rid of it, its her car, this is all pretty much my grandfathers idea. They just don't use it anymore and cant justify owning it, they only put 64miles on it last year (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) . But its only the second car shes ever owned and her baby so I may let her hold onto it for a little longer until I find the time to go get it. The vette will keep my busy in the meantime. What kind of setup was he running on it? I havent decited on staying stock or just go SP.

that sounds like a good price on the '92.
if they're starting at $12K then you'd probably be able to get it for less.
Say, $11K if you show up w/ cash.
I'd recommend staying in AS w/ the C4. I wish I hadn't modified my vette for that reason. BSP gets expensive in a hurry! Not only that, w/ the EVO, STi, and '04 S2000 moving in to AS its turning out to be a well subscribed class. '92's will work nice, even the base suspension and you get to run 17x9.5 on all four corners as opposed to 8.5" in the front for most '93+.
You already have the wheels, you'd only need to buy shocks (koni's ~$550) and swaybar ($150-$200).
On second thought, I think I'll be running my Z at A&M this weekend.

He is asking 14ish but says hes really negotiable. Highest BB value that I could come up w/ was mid 12's from NADA, KBB only had the car at high 9's so 12 is the most I will pay for it. Plus he is needing to sell it w/ a baby on the way so he should go. Sending them back hu? I can help you tear them up if you want and just spot you an IOU. If it was my car and tires I would be pulling the fuse on the last run and going days of thunder though the lights. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) That is unless you want to run my tires on your vette and your tires on my bird. You can double drive at A&M right? I would kinda like to see what the potential of it was before I start tearing all the good stuff off and selling it. And ya, damn profile gave you away.

I hope it doesn't rain this weekend.
I'll have to remember to pull that ABS fuse.
I may have a co-driver already, not sure though. No, you can't double drive at a&m. fun runs are a possibility....

Miata's are a ton of fun if you get one. My dad has a 90 Miata that has a ton of miles on and he is thinking of buying a newer car, so I can buy the 200k Miata for like nothing. Replace the bushings, CSP suspension, and build a new turbo 1.8L and have a killer SM2 car if I get sick of ESP.
