hey all, i have a buddy of mine that likes to do custom work and he wants to experiment with my car. he builds rears for custom cars over winter and works the farm during the summer. what i'm in need of is all the dimensions of the axle...i need the following:

spring perch to spring perch,
perch to backing plate,
end to end
center to end
backing plate to backing plate
panhard rod location
axle length
and any other dimensions you might have.

if you happen to know where i might find this info, send a link. i've googled and yahoo'd but cant find anything but end to end. thanks for your help.

I have a 10-bolt sitting on my workbench and will try to get to this tonight. I am not 100% sure of every dimension that you are asking for but since it's just sitting there, it should be easy to give you what you want.

well, if i could get a few of them, maybe i could piece the others together. i appreciate the effort though. my camaro is down for the winter and i don't have access right now. thanks.

maybe just a few, center to backing plate, center to spring perch, and center to PHR mount would be enough for starters.

fyi - something I just discovered a week or two ago, is the whole driveline is offset 1" to the passenger side.

The engine sits 1" over on the k-member (sighting the crank centerline vs. the hole for the brake line hold-down in the front center).

The tranny mount is 1" over, measuring from the pinch-welds at the rocker panels.

And the yoke on the diff is 1" over toward the passenger side.

so that would mean i can't double the measurements? i would need all measurements for both sides? grrrr. i wish i had access to my camaro. it would be simple.

I think all the external points on the rear diff are symmetrical, just the yoke is off center a bit. (i.e. the shock mount will be the same distance from the backing plates, the lca mounts the same distance from the backing plates, etc.)

Inside the diff, I don't know how they resolve the pinion riding on the ring gear, room for the center section, etc. with the yoke sitting 1" to the right, as far as those measurements go.

I just ook these measurements and I think that you can trust them within 1/16 of an inch, no better. If you are planning on doing fabrication work, you might want to get access to your rear just in case.

Measurements that I took:

Perch diameter: 2 3/16"
Perch-to-perch: 42" (measured from the outer side of each perch, e.g. includes "hole")
Backing plate to backing plate ~59 1/2" (measured from the inside of the backing plates)
PHB mount location: ~8 1/2" from the bolt hole to the centerline of the axle tube, ~ 8 1/4" from the DS backing plate to the centerline of the bolt hole

Axles are installed, not easily measured.

When you say end-to-end, what do you mean?

What would you like me to do from here?

from tube end to tube end, where the axle bearings are...not including axles. also, each tube length would be appreciated.

I sent you an e-mail with some doctored pictures to ensure that I measure what you are really interested in. Have a look and let me know.
