How did ya do against the Cessna in the background?  (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Real poor; we got red flaged every time a plane got on the taxi-way!

Here's some of the more difficult competition:

LMFAO!!!! Don't forget to start it with "N" next time you apply the numbers for an AutoX.

And now that I think about it, you're absolutely right about the 4x4 look. Not only am I lower than a mustang, I know I'm faster. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Regarding the "other competition", you have to be wary of both of those. The Ag-Cat is very nimble and has a huge engine... the Shrike... well lets just say that Bob Hoover used to fly one of those for his airshow routine. Now that's a hell of a way to navigate a chicago box!

Good catch on the "N" number. I love AG-Cats and that one was wicked looking with a turbine and five bladed prop. Bob Hoover is more than an aviation icon, he is one of my heros! He is a much greater pilot than Chuck Yeager who gets all the press. Too bad I never got to see one of his Shrike Commander aerobatic routines in person. That guy could have been a killer AX racer.

I've got more hours on my head under the dash of an Aero Commander (turbo prop) than I care to count. We did a major avionics installation on one of those and they are no fun at all to work on. And, the Garrett turbo props were ear splitting, even at idle.

My last job in a Piper Pawnee (spray plane) was not much fun. Those things are flying pick up trucks and get treated about the same way. Between dried up chemical powder that was left from leaks/spills and years of abuse, I couldn't get out of that thing fast enough....and I was just in the hangar.

Interesting. Sounds like they are more enjoyable to fly than to work on, just like our fbodys. I just stood on my head for a few hours changing the HVAC blower in my step daughters Honda Civic. Nothing like getting a sore neck, knees and elbows to help an ungrateful teenager.

Psh, did you ever hear the story of Bob Hoover's "retirement"? The FAA screwed him... not only that, he happened to perform his routine for them... with the cowl flaps stuck open on one engine. Sheesh, not only performing a difficult show in a business twin, but doing it with constant adverse yaw?! That boy had some skills. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Kevin, I never put the the pieces all together, but the hours of standing on your head in the pesticide filled compartments of Ag planes really explains a lot (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

You guys are going to make me take pictures at work and post them up, aren't you?

Yeah they took away his pilots license, and he lost ownership in the Shrike Commander in lawyers fees. Then he moved to Austraila to fly for a while longer before he fully retired. I saw his P-51 at an airshow once, but it also belongs to someone else now.

I have been going to the Reno air races for years and have seen Bob Hoovers flying many times. He also flew the P-51 pace plane. They now use a jet because the race planes are going to fast now. I remember at the races one year they were making a big deal how the FAA screwed him.
I was at an auto x at Santa Rosa california aitport and we had to stop running to let a P-51 taxi on by. What a sweet airplane.

P-51? Here's one that stopped by work. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Sorry for the move gentlemen, but I did notice the aviation in the autocross pics thread was getting dense... ok ok, so I was a pretty good factor in that one... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .

Here is a shot of a very rare late model Corsair and a nice looking P-51

There's one on the door to the torpedo room in the USS Hornet that is totally nude. Since a lot of famillies tour the ship, they put a magnetic swimsuit on her. When my father in law and I were getting a personal tour below deck, the tour guide said "look at this" and reached over and ripped her swimsuit off! I wanted to take a picture, but I thought it would be in bad taste in front of my father in law, who is also a Mormon Bishop.
