And here are pictures from the DSE Facebook post from 2016. https://photos.app.goo.gl/56FMzxn7UwXz3UzX2 I'm thinking the main part that separates these 2 cross members from all the ohers is that they both relocated the mounting location back a few inches instead of making a huge lever off of the factory location. I know I've seen a few T56 cross members that have double humps for the exhaust so that isn't anything new and they made a more elegant arc, (which they better, mine is ugly) so I'm not going to complain there. But if that is a C channel they used it will collect a bunch of debris! If they did copy me I'll just take it as a compliment! |

FSCKERS. Looks a lot like the crossmember I had fabbed so I could mount the TH350, crossmember-mounted T/A mount, and still get an exhaust under the car. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

One version of Occam's Razor states - When faced with a problem, the simplest answer is also the most correct. (that seems to be one of the generally accepted paraphrased versions).

If you didnt already patent it or do anything to protect the idea, then sure it could have been.... borrowed? Used as inspiration? Probably more what Trackbird says.

Ha, I'm not bitter. I just found it ironic that I just threw together something in my garage and someone that makes such expensive parts had the same idea (of moving the mounting point of the cross member back to the end of the subframe).
Although, I might think twice about posting pictures of whatever crazy things I make next time. |

Although, I might think twice about posting pictures of whatever crazy things I make next time. Indeed. Always consider if it could be something others might need. Our crossmember was a modded one from, I think Ground Control. It was an old torque arm mounting crossmember. Since we had moved the exhaust system from the 'usual' 3rd Gen location, to down the transmission tunnel, we needed space for the pipes, so I cut a fabricator loose on it. And like Chris, I'm not bitter, I was solving a problem on our specific car. Our torque arm is now kind of unique, and all we could find on a shelf were crossmembers that utilized the tailshaft T/A mount, so didn't have a provision for the mount, or one that used a completely different T/A mount than what ours had. Few made room for the exhaust. It's nice that DS has done this, it does solve a problem. And as others have said, there's more than one way to skin that cat. |
