Is there a way to turn the airbag light off using LS1Edit? Since I disconnected the airbags, the light flashes, attempts to pump, then the airbag light and service engine light comes on all the time.

No, it goes through it's own dedicated controller. You can keep the light off by inserting a resister in the end of the connector you unplugged to take out the airbag. It's a real low value like 4 ohms, but I can't remember for sure.

The other way to do it is to dremel through the connection on the back of the gauge cluster. I did this on the 2000TA I had when I put on a Momo steering wheel. You'll have to search the web to figure out which exact circuit it is.

It should be a 2 ohm resistor per bag. Steering wheel airbag harness gets one 2 ohm resistor, the dash bag will require another 2 ohm resistor. That should remove the dash light.

OK, I'm finally getting back to this. These resistors you mention, are they the little tiny 2 kohm resistors, or are they 2 ohm resistors that look like a miniature white brick (about 20 times the size of the little 2 kohm resistor)?

If you remove the airbag controller in the console, does the light go out then?

All seats and belts are out for the moment. Carpet is next, so I can get to the underpadding.

Anyway, battery is still disconnected, so I don't know the answer yet.

No, that's been out for a long time! I tried 2.2 kohm resistors in both driver and passenger airbag connectors earlier today, and the light still comes on.

It's a rather permanent solution, but it honestly only takes a minute to do once you have the gauge cluster out.

The question I have with removing the light all together or cutting the wire is, will the "service vehicle" light still come on then. My airbag light flashes for about 10 seconds when I start the car, then as soon as it realizes the airbags aren't there, it goes solid, then the "service vehicle" light comes on immediately.

How smart is the computer, or are these not linked to the computer?

It should be 2 ohm, not 2k ohms. Some do look like little white bricks.

Tried plugging in (2) 1 ohm (brick) resistors in series to both bags.....nothing. The light still comes on! Somebody's gotta know a trick!

Do you still have the control module in the center console and all the air bag fuses installed?

No, and I'm not putting it back in. I dealt with the light all last year, b/c the bags were still in the car, just disabled.

Yes, the fuse was in, just not the control module. I'd like to pull the bulb or cut the wire, but the "service vehicle" light will still be on I think. What else of importance would set the "service vehicle" light? Maybe I should just unplug both the bulbs? It's not like it's important like the "service engine soon" light.....that's a light that grabs attention.

I beleive the resistor trick only works if the control module is still hooked up. It tricks the module into think the bags are still there, so it sends the PCM an all good signal. I've been planning on making some sort of a bypass for the control module, but it looks like I will not have any time free until spring break (sometime in March (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ) to play with the damn thing.

Anybody know how the two lights interact? They are seperate from the PCM from what I understand. Somebody else with an LS1 must have removed the airbags and control module and killed the light somehow.....step in!

I have this exact problem. Anyone know a fix that allows me to leave the control module out of the car, and doesn't disable the service engine soon light? Or... Is the service vehicle soon light always dedicated to stupid crap like this, and I can just tape over it/dremel it like I can the airbag light?

The only other thing I can think of that could trigger the service vehicle light is the brake system. Low fluid or abs complaining about something not right. Because the only major systems that can talk are the pcm, airbag, and abs/brakes.

PCM already has SES, so that leaves airbag and abs/brakes. (there is another little module under the dash that checks fluid level, 3rd brake light, etc. but I'm lumping that in with abs)

(you might be thinking bcm, but I don't think any of the bcm functions -- such as power accessories, drl's, fog lights, or alarm -- will set it, and you probably don't care about those anyway.)

You should be able to just zap both those bulbs.
